The Year in Sports: Terriers Take Fourth Straight America East Lacrosse Title

Sports fans will tell you that every game matters, but the truth is, some games matter more than others. This week, BU Today presents a five-part look back at the games, the players, and the teams that made the difference in BU’s 2007-2008 seasons.

BOSTON – The eighth-ranked Boston University lacrosse teamneeded overtime to continue its stronghold on the America EastConference, but the Terriers came through, posting a 9-8 victory overNo. 14 New Hampshire to claim an unprecedented fourth straight leaguecrown on Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field. BU extended its winstreak to 13 contests and will face Sacred Heart in an NCAA Play-InGame on Saturday, May 3.

Junior Sarah Dalton, who had a game-high six points, senior co-captain Lauren Morton and sophomore Traci Landy each had a hat trick to account for all of the scoring. Junior Kelly Munroewas named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player and was joined onthe All-Tournament Team by Dalton, Landy and sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Klein.

After having a potential game-winning goal called back with 10seconds left in regulation due to an illegal stick, the Terriers usedgoals from Landy and Dalton in the first overtime session to take a 9-7lead. UNH got one back with 1:21 left in overtime, but the Terriersheld on to win the league title for the seventh time overall and sixthtime in the last seven years.
