Final Exams Still on Track
Winter storm sends staffers home
With heavy snow forecast for this afternoon and evening, Boston University administrators are encouraging all nonessential personnel on the Charles River Campus to leave work at noon. Peter Fiedler, the vice president of administrative services, says the Charles River Campus will remain open, and final exams will continue as scheduled on Friday and Saturday. In exceptional cases, exam dates may be changed and those students affected will be contacted by their instructors or by the Office of the Registrar. Students are advised to monitor their e-mail for schedule changes.
The forecast calls for up to a foot of snow and blizzard conditions continuing until midnight tonight. Meteorologists warn that up to two inches of snow may fall every hour and that winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour may reduce visibility to zero.
Both Governor Deval Patrick and Mayor Thomas M. Menino have encouraged nonemergency workers to stay home, and Menino has declared a snow emergency for the city of Boston, banning parking on major arteries.
Dwight Atherton, director of BU’s Parking and Transportation Services, advises that staffers with overnight parking permits who must work on-campus during the city-declared snow emergency must park in one of the covered/garaged facilities listed below.
East Campus
575 Commonwealth Garage (Lot L) – lower deck
Central Campus
730-750 Commonwealth Garage (Lot Q) – covered deck
This facility is located between the Guitar Center and Radio Shack.
Warren Towers Garage
700 Commonwealth Ave.
West Campus
808 Commonwealth Avenue (Lot F)
The 808 garage is located in the basement of the Fuller Building and is accessible from the lower portion of the parking lot.
Agganis Arena (Lot A – Arena Garage)
Students with valid orange overnight parking permits will be permitted to park in either the 808 Commonwealth Garage or Warren Towers garage only during city-declared snow emergencies.
The BUS will continue to operate in accordance with its regular schedule, unless conditions deteriorate to a point that it cannot be safely continued.
MBTA officials say they are ramping up staffing to keep trains and buses moving on schedule. More snow is predicted for Sunday.
