Free Shakespeare Under The Stars
As You Like It plays on the Common tonight
By Caleb Daniloff
The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company has been bringing free, outdoor Shakespeare to Bostonians since 1996, starting with "A Midsummer Night’s Dream."
Steve Maler, the founding artistic director of the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company, directs this pastoral comedy-romance, believed to have been written in 1599 or 1600. The action unfolds in the French court and the Forest of Arden, and contains plenty of cross-dressing, as well as the famous “All the world’s a stage” soliloquy.
Admission is free, but come early to stake out prime real estate (for the closest stage views plan on two to three hours ahead of time). The show begins at 8 p.m. at the Parkman Bandstand. If you can’t make it tonight, fret not; performances are held Tuesday through Sunday until Aug. 3 (note: Sunday shows begin at 7 p.m.). Also, check out CSC’s rehearsal and audience blogs where you can peep at behind-the-scenes pics and post recipe tips. Shakespeare on the Common is a public program of Citi Performing Arts Center and sponsored by Citi. For more information, click here or call 617-482-9393.
