Police Recover Body from Charles River
Witness reports man struggling in water beneath BU Bridge
The body of a Boston University employee was recovered from the Charles River yesterday after police and fire units from Boston, BU, Cambridge, and the State Police responded to a 911 call reporting that a person had been seen struggling in the river beneath the BU Bridge.
The witness was reportedly walking along the Charles River Esplanade and heard a loud splash, “as if someone had fallen into the river,” says Captain Robert Molloy of the BU Police. The witness, who is not affiliated with BU, looked at the water, saw what appeared to be a person struggling, Molloy says, and went to the BU Sailing Pavilion to call 911.
The State Police Dive Team and Marine Section searched the river yesterday afternoon, and recovered the body at approximately 4:30 p.m., according to BU Police Sergeant Robert Casey. Casey confirmed that the man was a Boston University employee; his name is being withheld until the family is notified.
