Sara Caldwell was the first woman to conduct at New York’s Metropolitan Opera House.

In 1976, Sara Caldwell, head of BU’s Opera Workshop from 1952 to 1960, became the first woman to conduct at New York City’s Metropolitan Opera House. Tonight at Symphony Hall, Ann Howard Jones, CFA director of choral activities, conducts the BU Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Chorus in Haydn’s The Creation.
