Physical therapy students Anna Dewey (SAR’07), Carrie Bessler (SAR’06), and Elnaz Nazmi (SAR’08) attended the National Student Conclave of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) from October 21 to 23 in Denver, Colo. Students from around the country met at the annual conclave to attend lectures on topics ranging from managing debt and student loans to practicing “cultural competency” in physical therapy.

The objective of the conference, Dewey says, is to “increase awareness of Vision 2020,” a plan that sets guidelines for practitioners. The APTA hopes physical therapists will achieve the guidelines by the year 2020.

“Being there among all the physical therapists got us really excited about being in the field,” says Dewey. “We want to spread the excitement to all our other classmates.” Last Monday the three students held a question-and-answer session about their experiences at the meeting for all physical therapy students.
