Jessica Volz wins Merit Award
Artist, writer and student, Jessica Volz (UNI'08), wins a Merit Award for academic excellence.
Jessica Volz (UNI’08) was recently honored with a Merit Award celebrating academic excellence. The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the only honors society in the country offering memberships to first and second year students, awarded the Trustee Scholar $1,000 for success in her academic endeavors. University Professor Sir Hans Kornberg presented the award on behalf of the organization at a ceremony on October 23.
Volz, a sophomore in the University Professors Program, is creating an interdisciplinary major that “combines literature, creative writing, and two languages — French and Italian.” Her passion for art together with an interest in imagination and innovation across the world has fueled her desire to become a writer and illustrator in the future. Volz’s art has been displayed at the U.S. Capitol, as well as presented to the former Chancellor Helmut Kohl of Germany. In her spare time, she enjoys playing piano, figure skating, ballroom dancing and participating in community service.
