Breaking news: Memorial service will honor Zhizhang He

Marsh Chapel event scheduled for Thursday morning

A memorial service for Zhizhang He, the 22-year-old graduate student who died last week, will take place on Thursday, December 22, at 10 a.m. in Marsh Chapel. Chapel Dean Robert C. Neville will officiate, and a reception will be held after the service.

“This is an opportunity for friends, peers, and classmates to be able to come and pay their respects,” says Assistant Dean of Students Allen Ward.

He, who was studying math and finance in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, was from Foshan, China, and received his undergraduate degree from Sun Yat-Sen University.

Friends describe him as a gifted student and talented athlete, who participated in track and field in high school and enjoyed playing basketball with classmates at BU. He was devoted to his family in China and his girlfriend in London, and his roommates said he would often cook dinner for a group of friends on the weekends.

He died of undetermined causes in his Allston apartment on Sunday, December 11. His parents, who obtained special visas to enter the country, arrived in Boston last Friday.
