Art Exhibits

Intriguing exhibits focused on common ground and the human condition are constantly rotating through the center. Occasionally, we retain objects for our permanent collection. Recent acquisitions include works by Bren Bataclan, founder of the Smile Boston Project, Brianna Dillman of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and Sarah Mosser, a graduate student in BU’s College of Fine Arts.

COLOR & HARMONY

by ŞEFKAT İŞLEĞEN

November 2 – December 15, 2016

sefkatislegen

Artist Şefkat İşleğen uses original print techniques in her paintings. Rather than using too many colors in her works, she prefers to use different tones of a single color. She also prefers to use colors which are not too bright but those which would be more visible by the effect of light, subject to perception of the viewer.

According to the artist, “Despite general knowledge, ears don’t listen, but instead the eyes help us to perceive through the help of the brain. Rhythm, balance and colors in a picture are observed by the eyes and gains a meaning. This perception becomes especially important in case of abstract paintings. The viewer only sees what she/he wants to see based on her/his own experiences or personal history, but not what is drawn in the picture by the artist.”

A collaboration with the 21st Boston Turkish Festival.
