Boston University alum and former Howard Thurman Center ambassador Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) describes the HTC as a space that “contributed more to my development than any class I ever took.”

She goes on to say, “Probably my most enriching experience was that I crossed paths with the Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground at Boston University. […] It was there that I dove very deeply into the traditions of social justice in the United States and across the world. It was there that I studied Howard Thurman, which for individuals who don’t know who Howard Thurman was, he was a mentor to Martin Luther King, he is just an intellectual giant in the American philosophical tradition. And one of his most notable works is The Search for Common Ground, which is really, I think, about the quest and journey for healing in America and how we chart our path forward.”

Ocasio-Cortez joined Dr. Cornel West and Professor Tricia Rose for the debut episode of their podcast “The Tight Rope.” Listen to the full interview below and on the podcast’s Youtube channel.
