Erin Tichenor (CAS’19)

Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Erin Tichenor is currently a senior in the College of Arts & Sciences majoring in sociology. A long-time Howard Thurman Center Student Ambassador, Erin first learned of the HTC at her freshman orientation session. While Coffee & Conversation remains her favorite program, Erin has delved into other aspects of the HTC like art exhibits, weekend retreats throughout New England, and panel discussions with faculty, authors, and policy makers.

In her own words, “The HTC’s array of programming – everything from Coffee & Conversation to panels and exhibits – has enhanced my education well outside of the classroom, but the people are crucial. Those whom I’ve met through the HTC have shaped me in countless ways. The center’s very being espouses a commitment to applying Thurman’s charge for common ground at BU and in our world.”

Following her graduation, Erin intends to put her sociological training to use while keeping her options open. She’ll first complete a thesis that contributes to the full decriminalization of consensual migrant sex work in New Zealand (where she studied abroad), and then apply for a job or fellowship that allows her to pursue her areas of interest more deeply and intentionally.

We at the HTC will miss seeing Erin on a daily basis but know she’ll spread the message of common ground in all her future endeavors.
