Private Sub-Mailbox Service

Create Your Room's Main Mailbox
One person should create the Main Mailbox.

  1. From your own room, dial 3-9999.
  2. Press * to enter your mailbox.
  3. Dial your 7-digit mailbox number (35X-XXXX).
  4. Wait for the prompt that begins "Since this is the first time you've used the Boston University Voice Messaging Service...", then press the # key when asked.
  5. Create a passcode. Enter a 4 to 10-digit number that you will remember. As the person setting up the room's Main Mailbox, only you will be able to create private sub-mailboxes.
  6. Press 1 to create private sub-mailboxes.
  7. Enter the number of sub-mailboxes you would like to create. You can create 1-8 sub-mailboxes. These sub-mailboxes will be created with the following passcodes: For sub-mailbox 1,
    passcode 1111; For sub-mailbox 2, passcode 2222 and so forth... The passcode for the main mailbox is [XXXX]. (From step 5)
  8. Press 1 to record your room mailbox greeting. For example, say "Hi. You've reached Bill and Ted 's room. Press one to leave a message for Bill, or two for Ted."
  9. Record your names or room telephone number. For example, say "Bill and Ted" or "35X-XXXX."

You have now finished setting up your Room's Main Mailbox. Go on
to the next step to personalize the private sub-mailboxes for you and your roommates.

Personalize Your Private Sub-Mailbox
Roommates with private sub-mailboxes must complete this
step individually.

  1. From your own room, dial 3-9999.
  2. Enter your temporary passcode. Refer to the list created by the roommate who set up the room's main mailbox.
  3. Wait for the prompt that begins "Since this is the first time you've used the Boston University Voice Messaging Service...", then pressthe # key when asked.
  4. Change your passcode. Use any 4 to 10-digit number that you will remember. No one else will know this number.
  5. Record your personal greeting. Press # to stop recording. For example, "This is Ted. I can't take your call right now. Please leave me a message and I'll get back to you."
  6. Record your name. For example, "Ted" or "Ted Clark." Press # to stop recording.
