Be sure to plug your phone into the appropriate jack. Every residence and apartment unit has a telephone outlet for each resident. Telephone numbers are permanently assigned to the rooms and apartments; therefore, with each move, your telephone number will change.
If you choose to share a phone, only one roommate can be responsible for the service. The person who completes the appropriate paperwork becomes the subscriber of the service. That roommate will be Verizon's customer and will be totally responsible for the payment of all charges, including those incurred by other roommates. You should carefully decide which roommate accepts this responsibility. (This is the same situation that you would encounter if you signed up for telephone service in an off campus apartment.) Boston University will not settle disputes between roommates regarding the responsibility for charges incurred. The subscriber is liable for all charges incurred on the phone bill until a disconnect order is completed or a transfer agreement is signed.
Transferring service should be done when the current subscriber moves out or no longer wants to be the subscriber, but the remaining roommate wants to maintain the service. To transfer service to another name you must contact Verizon. A $7.60 fee will apply to transfer service.
To disconnect the service please call Verizon. There is no charge to disconnect service. The current subscriber is liable for all charges incurred prior to the date of transfer or disconnect. At the end of the spring semester (May) and the end of the summer sessions (August), all residential telephone service is disconnected on a specified day unless otherwise requested. Notification of the specific date is mailed with your bill prior to that time.
Boston University Directory
If you are assigned to a Boston University residence hall, you will be listed in the University telephone directory and with the student directory service (353-3700). If you move to another residence served by Centrex, your new number will be automatically listed with the University student directory assistance. To restrict this Information complete a Personal Data Form, available at the Registrar's office.
