Audio Basics and Conference Bridges

BU Connect offers three options for the audio portion of your web conference.

Option 1 - You can choose to utilize your computer with PC Headsets/Microphones to communicate with other web conference attendees using Voice Over IP. If even one attendee can access audio only by telephone, you will have to rely on a Conference Calling Bridge. All attendees will dial in using a traditional conference call and listen by telephone.

Boston University has two choices for an audio bridge for your meeting. If a conference calling bridge will be necessary, please request the service at the same time you submit the Web Conference request.

Option 2 –A free conference service with the audio bridges reserved on a first come, first serve basis, the Meet-Me Conference Bridge is a basic bridge with no recording capabilities that allows a maximum of 30 participants. You must reserve this option well in advance of your web conference by calling the Boston University switchboard at 617-353-2000.

Option 3 –BU has a relationship with Premiere Global Conference Calling and offers its service for a fee. This enhanced conference service features toll-free calling and the recording of the conference session.. The cost per conference call is a domestic rate of 3.9 cents per minute/per caller—for example, a one hour, ten-person call would cost approximately $24. You may reserve a Premier Global Conference Bridge by calling 617-353-2097 (you will need your department’s billing code information).
