All administrative lines at BU require PBNs in order to place long distance calls. PBNs are 5-digits long, and are restricted by Network Class of Service (NCOS) categories:

  • NCOS 13: Allows calls within Massachusetts
  • NCOS 22: Allows calls within Continental US, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, West Indies
  • NCOS 25: North America
  • NCOS 28: International

PBNs are non-transferable and are to be used only by the person to whom the PBN is assigned to. It is the responsibility of University departments to inform the Office of Telecommunications when faculty or staff members leave the University, by requesting deactivation of any active PBNs or Calling Cards assigned to that person.

To add, change, or delete PBNs, a Department Administrator must send us a PBN Request Form with an authorized signature to the Office of Telecommunications. Call 3-2097 for assistance or further information about long distance services at BU.
