Frequently Asked Questions About the Intensive Treatment

What costs should I expect to incur if I/my child participates in this program?

  • The treatment itself is offered free of charge to eligible adolescents. However, each family is responsible for paying for their travel to Boston, including hotel and meals, over the week, as well as any entrance fees, etc. relevant to treatment.

How long will I/my adolescent be in treatment each day?

  • Typically, the first three days (usually Monday through Wednesday) last between 2 and 4 hours. The fourth and fifth days (usually Thursday and Friday) require 6-8 hours each. The final session (usually Monday) lasts approximately 2 hours.

If my child is not eligible for the study, is it still possible to receive intensive treatment through CARD?

  • Yes, the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders offers intensive treatment to adolescents with Panic Disorder or Specific Phobias, outside of this particular research project. However, this treatment is fee for service. Please call us for more information at 617-353-9610.

Should parents/guardians also be present over the treatment week?

  • Yes, at least one parent should be present, though the level of parent/guardian involvement varies.
