Enable Cookies and Java – Windows

A cookie is a small piece of information that your browser stores on your computer when you visit certain web pages. Blackboard Learn uses cookies to remember your login information as you browse through the site, so it is crucial that you allow cookies from Blackboard Learn.

JavaScript, which is different from Java, is a language used by web browsers that allows for easier browsing and more browsing features. JavaScript is automatically enabled by default in Internet Explorer and Firefox. If you need to check that cookies and JavaScript are enabled in your browser, use the instructions below.

Enable Cookies and JavaScript in your browser

  1. Launch Internet Explorer from your desktop or start menu.
  2. From the main browser menu, click Tools.
    (IE7 and IE8 users can also find “Tools” to the right of the “Home” icon)
  3. Click Internet Options, the last item in the list.

  5. Click the Privacy tab.
  6. Set the slider to Medium.

  7. Click OK to save your changes.

JavaScript is enabled in Internet Explorer by default.

  1. Launch Firefox from your desktop or start menu.
  2. Click on Firefox in the top left corner of the window.
  3. Hover over Options, and then click the second Options that appears

  4. Click the Privacy icon.

  5. Ensure that the Accept Cookies from Sites check box is checked. In order to be able to use the HTML Creator feature within Blackboard Learn, ensure that the Accept third-party cookies check box is also checked.

  6. Click OK to save your changes.
  7. Continue on to JavaScript.

Enabling JavaScript

JavaScript, which is different from Java, is a language used by web browsers that allows for easier browsing and more browsing features. JavaScript is enabled in Internet Explorer and Firefox by default. Use the instructions below if you have previously disabled JavaScript in Firefox.

  2. Click on Firefox in the top left corner of the window.
  3. Hover over Options, and then click the second Options that appears

  7. Continue to the Firewall Set Up.
