Clear Java cache – Mac OS X

Java problems that surface after you have ensured that you have the version of Java on your computer that it is compatible with Blackboard Vista can oftentimes be fixed by simply clearing out your Java cache.

Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger)

Select your version of Java

Java 1.3.1

  1. Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock.

  2. Click “Applications”, and then click the “Utilities” Folder.

  3. Click the “Java” folder and then double-click on the “Java Plugin Settings” icon. Note: You may have multiple versions of Java installed on your computer, in which case you will see multiple icons, e.g. “Java 1.3.1 Plugin Settings”, “Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings” and “J2SE 5.0″. It is always a good idea to clear the caches all of the versions of Java that you may have.

  4. Click on the tab marked “Cache”.

  5. Click the “Clear JAR Cache” button.
  6. Click “OK” in the popup confirmation window.

  7. Close the Java Control Panel (Step #4).

Java 1.4.2

  1. Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock.

  2. Click “Applications”, and then click the “Utilities” Folder.

  3. Click the “Java” folder and then double-click on the “Java Plugin Settings” icon. Note: You may have multiple versions of Java installed on your computer, in which case you will see multiple icons, e.g. “Java 1.3.1 Plugin Settings”, “Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings” and “J2SE 5.0″.   4. Click on the tab marked “Cache”.

  5. Click on the “Clear” button in the right-hand side of the window.
  6. Click “Yes” in the popup confirmation window.

  7. Close the Java Control Panel (Step #4).

Java 1.5.0

  1. Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock.

  2. Click “Applications”, and then click the “Utilities” Folder.

  3. Click the “Java” folder and then click on the “J2SE 5.0″ folder.
  4. Double-click the “Java Preferences” icon. Note: You may have multiple versions of Java installed on your computer, in which case you will see multiple icons, e.g. “Java 1.3.1 Plugin Settings”, “Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings” and “J2SE 5.0″. It is always a good idea to clear the caches of all of the versions of Java that you may have.

  5. Click on the tab marked “General” and then click the “Delete Files…” button in the “Temporary Internet Files” section of the window.

  6. Ensure that all three check boxes are checked and then click the “OK” button.

  7. Close the Java Control Panel (Step #5).

Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

Java 1.5.0

  1. Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock.

  2. Click “Applications”, and then click the “Utilities” Folder.
  3. Double-click the “Java Preferences” icon.

  4. Click on the tab labeled “Network” and then click the button labeled “Delete Files…”.

  5. Ensure that both check boxes are checked and then click the “OK” button.

  6. Close the Java Control Panel (Step #4).
