Find the version you're using
- For Firefox versions 4.0 to 28.0, click the orange Firefox icon, located in the upper left-hand corner of your Firefox browser. For Firefox version 29.0 and above, click the menu icon located in the upper right-hand corner of the browser and then, in the window that appears, click the question mark icon.
- For Firefox 4.0 to 28.0, in the menu that appears mouse-over Help > and then click on the About Firefox option. For Firefox version 29.0 and above, click the About Firefox link.
- A small window will appear providing you with your Firefox browser’s version number.
- Depending on your rights on the computer, or if the browser is not fully up-to-date, you may or may not see a Check for Updates button. If you do, you can click this button to check for the latest version of Firefox.
Downgrade your version of Firefox
If you must downgrade your version of Firefox due to compatibility issues, follow the steps below to uninstall your current version of Firefox and install a previous build.
- Download the version of Firefox you need from the list below:
- Firefox 10 ESR (OnBase)
- Firefox 24 ESR (BU Works)
- Windows Vista and Windows 7: Click the Start button and then Control Panel.
Windows 8.0 and Windows 8.1: From the Start screen, type Control Panel. Press the Enter key or click on the Control Panel icon that appears.
- In the Control Panel, click the Uninstall a program link.
- In the list of installed programs, click the Mozilla Firefox… icon.
- Click the Uninstall button, located at the top of the list of installed programs.
- Follow the steps in the Mozilla Firefox Uninstall wizard to remove Firefox from your computer. During the removal process you’ll be asked if you wish to keep your current Firefox profile. You can leave this intact to be used when you install the previous build of Firefox. The profile keeps things like your browser history and bookmarks.
- After finishing the uninstall wizard, restart your computer.
- Locate the file downloaded in step #1 above.
- Close out all open programs and double-click the Firefox installer file to begin the installation process.
- Follow the steps in the wizard in order to complete the installation. Choose the Standard installation option.
- If you are installing Firefox 10 ESR for use with OnBase, follow the steps in the Prevent Firefox from updating automatically section below.
Prevent Firefox from updating automatically
- For Firefox 4.0 to 28.0, click the orange Firefox icon. For Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu icon, located in the upper right-hand corner of the browser.
- For Firefox 4.0 to 28.0, mouse over Options and then in the menu that appears, click the Options link. For Firefox 29.0 and above, click the Options icon.
- Click the Advanced icon at the top of the Options window and then the Update tab below.
- Click the Never check for updates… radio button.
