A cookie is a small piece of information that your browser stores on your computer when you visit certain web pages. Blackboard Learn uses cookies to remember your login information as you browse through the site, so it is crucial that you allow cookies from Blackboard Learn. Cookies are also required for logging into any BU resource through Web Login.

JavaScript, which is different from Java, is a language used by web browsers that allows for easier browsing and more browsing features. JavaScript is automatically enabled by default in most web browsers. If you need to check that cookies and JavaScript are enabled in your browser, use the instructions below.

Enable Cookies and JavaScript in your browser

  1. Launch Internet Explorer from your desktop or start menu.
  2. The Internet Options window can be reached either by clicking Tools from the main menu bar or by clicking the Spool icon, located to the right of the Home icon.
  3. Click Internet Options, the last item in the list.

  5. Click the Privacy tab.
  6. Set the slider to Medium.

  7. Click OK to save your changes.

JavaScript is enabled in Internet Explorer by default.

  1. Launch Firefox from your desktop or start menu.
  2. Click on the menu icon, located in the upper right-hand corner of the web browser.
  3. In the window that appears, click the Options icon.

  5. For the Firefox will: drop-down menu, select the Use custom settings for history option.
  6. Ensure that the Accept cookies from sites check box is checked. In order to be able to use the HTML Creator feature within or access Digication through the ePortfolio tab in Blackboard Learn, ensure that the Accept third-party cookies option is set to Always or From visited
  7. Click OK to save your changes.

Enabling JavaScript

JavaScript is enabled in both Firefox and Internet Explorer by default.

  1. Launch Google Chrome from your desktop or start menu.
  2. Click on the menu icon in the top right corner of the window.

  5. Choose Content Settings from the Privacy section.

  6. Ensure that the radial button for Allow local data to be set (recommended) is selected.

  7. Click Done to save your changes.
  8. Continue on to JavaScript.
