Java problems that surface after you have ensured that you only have one version of Java on your computer and that it is the version compatible with Blackboard Learn can oftentimes be fixed by simply clearing out your Java cache.

Select your version of Windows

  1. Click the start button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen.

  2. Click the Control Panel icon. This will open up your Windows Control Panel.

  3. Click Programs. If you don’t see your Java icon under Programs, it may also be listed under Additional Options. If you are using the “Classic View” as shown in the left column of the Windows Control Panel, you can skip to Step #4.

  4. Click the Java icon.

  5. In the Java Control Panel window, click the General tab and then click the Settings… button in the Temporary Internet Files section.

  6. In the Temporary Files Settings window that appears, click the Delete Files… button.

  7. In the Delete Temporary Files window, ensure that both check boxes are checked and click the OK button.

  8. Click the OK button to close the Temporary Files Settings window (Step #6). Click the OK button again to close the Java Control Panel window (Step #5). Click the red X in the upper right-hand corner of your Windows Control Panel to close it (Step #2).
  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard to be brought to the Windows 8 Start screen.
  2. Type Control Panel and when you see the Control Panel icon, either click on it or press the Enter key on your keyboard to go into Desktop mode and launch the Control Panel.

  3. This will open up your Windows Control Panel window. Click the Programs link.

  4. Click the Java icon. It looks like a coffee mug. If a Windows User Account Control security window appears asking for permission to run the program, click Allow.

  5. In the Java Control Panel window, click the General tab and then click the Settings… button in the Temporary Internet Files section.

  6. In the Temporary Files Settings window that appears, click the Delete Files… button.

  7. In the Delete Files and Applications window, ensure that the Trace and Log Files as well as Cached Applications and Applets check boxes are checked. Click the OK button.

  8. Click the OK button to close the Temporary Files Settings window (Step #6). Click the OK button in the Java Control Panel window to close it (Step #5). Click the red X in the upper right-hand corner of your Windows Control Panel to close it (Step #2).
