A cookie is a small piece of information that your browser stores on your computer when you visit certain web pages. Blackboard Vista uses cookies to remember your login information as you browse through the site, so it is crucial that you allow cookies from Blackboard Vista.

JavaScript, which is different from Java, is a language used by web browsers that allows for easier browsing and more browsing features. JavaScript is automatically enabled by default in Internet Explorer and Firefox. If you need to check that cookies and JavaScript are enabled in your browser, use the instructions below.

Enable Cookies and JavaScript in your browser

  1. Launch Internet Explorer from your desktop or start menu.
  2. From the main browser menu, click “Tools”.
    (IE7 and IE8 users can also find “Tools” to the right of the “Home” icon)
  3. Click “Internet Options”, the last item in the list.

  5. Click the “Privacy” tab.
  6. Set the slider to “Medium”.

  7. Click “OK” to save your changes.

JavaScript is enabled in Internet Explorer by default. Continue on to the Firewall Set Up.

  1. Launch Firefox from your desktop or start menu.
  2. From the main browser menu, click “Tools”.
  3. Click “Options”, the last item in the list.

  5. Ensure that the “Accept Cookies from Sites” check box is checked. In order to be able to use the HTML Creator feature within Blackboard Vista, ensure that the “Accept third-party cookies” check box is also checked.

  6. Click OK to save your changes.
  7. Continue on to JavaScript.
