If you wish to remove your current anti-virus program and install McAfee Anti-Virus from Boston University, you MUST uninstall your current anti-virus program BEFORE you install McAfee Anti-Virus. Having more than one anti-virus program installed on your computer will cause severe problems.

Uninstall Current Anti-Virus and Install McAfee Anti-Virus

  1. Save the McAfee Anti-Virus software to your computer’s Desktop.
  2. Click the start button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen.
  3. Click the Control Panel icon. Depending on your start menu style, you may need to click Settings and then Control Panel.

  4. Click on “Add or Remove Programs.” If you are in Windows XP classic view, double-click the “Add or Remove Programs” icon.

  5. Look for your current anti-virus program (i.e. “Norton”, “Symantec”, “Live Reg Update”, etc.). For each part of your anti-virus program listed, click on the name and then the “Remove” button. Follow the instructions to uninstall all files associated with the anti-virus program.

  6. Restart your computer and install the McAfee anti-virus program downloaded in Step #1.

  4. When the update is complete, the “Cancel” button will change to “Close”. Click the “Close” button to close out this window.
  5. Proceed to the connection test.
