Echo360 personal capture enable instructors to record audio, computer screens and webcam video. These recordings can be edited and saved on computers or shared online for students.

Windows

  • Download and Install Echo 360
  • Configure Devices for Echo 360 Personal Capture
  • Connect to the VPN (off campus)
  • Create and Publish Recordings
  • Step 1: Download and Install Echo 360

    1. Log in at https://echo360.bu.edu:8443/ess/login.jsp. If you do not have an account, request one by contacting us at ithelp@bu.edu
    2. Click the Downloads tab.

    3. Download Echo360 Software by clicking on the appropriate platform link
      • PC: EchoSystemPersonalCaptureForWindows_5.4.530489986.exe
    4. Find the downloaded file on your computer, and double-click it. It should extract the Echo Installer in the same file location where you download Echo360 Software. If you saved the file to your desktop, the installer file will also be on the desktop.
    5. Double-click the installer, then follow the installation wizard steps. When you reach the Select Application Mode step, be sure to select Personal Capture: e360win2_001

    Step 2: Configure Devices for Echo 360 Personal Capture

    Before you start a capture, you need to select which devices you will use to record your audio and video. You can set this up once and the software will remember your choices provided the devices remain available for use.

    To configure devices:

    1. Connect any devices needed for recording video (webcam) and audio (microphone)
    2. Open Echo360 Personal Capture by using the Echo 360 icon on your desktop or from your Start menu.
    3. Use the drop-down menu to select an audio device.
    4. Use the drop-down menus to select the primary and secondary video devices echowin5
    5. Adjust the quality of the recording, if desired

    6. If your device is not listed, close Personal Capture, plug in your device and restart Personal Capture, then repeat the previous steps listed here.

    Step 3: Create and Publish Recordings

    1. When you are ready for capture, click the Record button.
    2. Once you click the Record button, a five-second countdown begins to give you time to launch your presentation software and start.
    3. If you want to stop or pause the recording, Press
      • Alt + F5 to pause
      • Alt + F6 to stop
      • Or choose Stop/Pause Recording from the software interface
    4. When you stop the recording, it will appear in the list of recordings where you can then manage it
    5. To Edit your recording, hover over it in the list and select the pencil icon

    6. To publish your recording, you must log in to the Echo360 server using your BU login name and kerberos password. IMPORTANT: As an additional level of security, Personal Capture users must connect to the BU network in order to publish their recordings. This can be done off campus through the use of a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Instructions for using the BU VPN can be found here

    Mac

    IMPORTANT NOTE – if you have recently upgraded your Mac operating system to version 10.11 (El Capitan) you will need to update your current Echo360 software in order to publish recordings. The software should prompt you to update the next time you connect, or you can download the updated installer file by following the instructions below.

    6. Use the drop-down menus to select the right and left video devices, and video qualities.

    8. Click OK when finished.
    9. If your device is not listed, close Personal Capture, plug in your device and restart Personal Capture, then repeat steps 2 – 7.

    Step 3: Create and Publish Recordings

    1. When you are ready for capture, click the Start Recording button.
    2. Once you click the Start Capture button, a five-second countdown begins to give you time to launch your presentation software and start.
    3. If you want to stop or pause the recording, Press
      • Command + 8 to stop
      • Command + 6 to pause
      • Or choose Stop Recording from the menu in the system tray.
    4. When you stop the recording, the Edit Recording window is displayed where you can review and edit to your recording.

    5. When you are done editing your recording, click the Publish Recording button.

    6. To publish your recording, you must log in to the Echo360 server using your BU login name and kerberos password.
