What is a participant list?

A participant list is a spreadsheet saved as a .tpl file containing all of the students that should be responding to a set of TurningPoint questions, their unique remote IDs, and their student ID numbers for Blackboard. Participant lists can be created manually or downloaded from Blackboard.

Whenever you would like responses associated with a specific list, be sure to select that list from the Participant List drop-down of the TurningPoint 2008 pane before you start a presentation.

How do I create a participant list?

There are two ways to set up participant lists with TurningPoint. We recommend downloading the list automatically created by Blackboard after the add/drop period has ended, but you can still create them manually for courses not using Blackboard.

Manually create a list:

  1. Select TurningPoint 2008 from the PowerPoint toolbar.
  2. Click on the Participants button and select Participant List Wizard.

  3. Click Next through the first two steps. They are automatically selected correctly for this use.
  4. Create a group if you’d like, though it is not necessary.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Provide a memorable name that you will be able to recognize in the future. The course’s ID is our suggestion.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. The resulting window creates a blank spreadsheet with a single row for each student. Modify the fields as you would with a normal spreadsheet editor. Pressing return/Enter will create a new entry.
  9. Click Done when all of your students have been added.

  1. Select TurningPoint 2008 from the PowerPoint toolbar.

  10. Select Import Participant List.
