These instructions allow you to use Blackboard Learn with a legacy version of TurningPoint, including TurningPoint 2008 and TurningPoint Anywhere 2008.

1) Enabling the TurningPoint Registration Block

Why do I need this?

If you are interested in using TurningPoint with your Blackboard Learn course, you need to make sure that the correct TurningPoint registration block is enabled for your course. This will allow students to register their TurningPoint Response Device IDs.

  1. Visit learn.bu.edu and log in with your BU login name and Kerberos password.
  2. Navigate to your course site.
  3. Go to Control Panel -> Customization -> Tool Availability.
  4. Under Tools, make sure Registration Block is selected by checking the corresponding box to the right.

  5. Scroll further down to Turning Technologies Registration Tool and make sure that is turned off. When off, the box for Available is not selected.

  6. Click Submit.

2) Changing/Verifying Course Role as Instructor

Why do I need this?

To import or download lists of participants from a Blackboard Learn course to use with TurningPoint, a Blackboard user’s role in the course must be set to Instructor.

  1. While in your Blackboard Learn course site.
  2. Go to Control Panel -> Users and Groups -> Users.
  3. In the search box, type the instructor’s username and click Go.
  4. Once you find the instructor, verify that it says Instructor under Role.
    • If role is correctly set, proceed to section below if you are interested in downloading or importing a participant list.
    • If role is set to something other than instructor, such as “On Campus Instructor”, continue with the following steps.
  5. Click the arrow to the right of the instructor’s username.

  6. Select Change User’s Role in Course.
  7. Make sure the user is marked as Instructor.
    “On Campus Instructor” does not give you the right level of privileges for this to work. Be sure to select “Instructor.”
  8. Click Submit.

3) Importing List of Participants from your Blackboard Learn Course

Why do I need this?

Following the steps below, you will be able to import lists of students from your Blackboard Learn course to TurningPoint.

Windows

  1. Open your TurningPoint-enabled PowerPoint file.
  2. Select Tools from the TurningPoint 2008 ribbon to display the drop-down menu and select Integrations.

  3. In the dialog box that appears, select Blackboard as the Management System.

  4. For Server URL, type learn.bu.edu.
  5. On the Blackboard Login screen, enter your BU login name and Kerberos password and click Next.

  6. You will be prompted to log in a second time. Enter your BU login name and Kerberos password  a second time and click Login.
  7. After successfully logging in, you will see the TurningPoint Authentication Tool.
  8. Click Next to advance to the Blackboard Wizard screen. Here, select Import Participant List and click Next.

  9. Select the course  from which you would like to import the participant list and click Finish.
  10. Save the list in the TurningPoint participant list folder and click Ok to close the window.

Mac OS X

  1. Launch TurningPoint Anywhere.
  2. Select Participants under Create and Manage.

  3. Click Import an LMS List to open the LMS Integration Assistant wizard.

  4. Select Blackboard as the Management System and type http://learn.bu.edu for Server Address.

  5. On the next screen, enter your BU login name and Kerberos password, and then click Next.

  6. You will be prompted to log in a second time. Once again, enter your BU login name and Kerberos password, and then click Login.
  7. Upon successful login, you will see the TurningPoint Authentication Tool.
  8. Click Continue to advance to the next screen with options for importing participant lists. Here, select Import Participant List and click Continue.

  9. Select the course you would like to import the participant list from and click Continue.
  10. Save list in the TurningPoint Participants folder (which appears by default) by clicking Save.
  11. Click Done to close the window.
