Text is the first and most obvious component of your web page. You are publishing information—conveying ideas, providing insight, and telling web visitors something they came to your page to learn.

You will likely have a good deal of your text written before you begin building a web page. You can use any word processing software to write this text.

Unless you’re using an advanced HTML editor like Dreamweaver (from Adobe), you will find it easier to edit, revise and spell-check your text in another application before you add it to a web page. This is especially true when the text you’re writing for your web page will also be published on hard copy.

Also keep in mind that once you start adding HTML code, the text will not be as easy to read, and you may not be able to use advanced text tools (like a spelling checker), depending on your software.
