Note: Faculty and staff using Office/Outlook 2003 are eligible for an upgrade under the Microsoft Enterprise Agreement – www-staging.bu.edu/tech/microsoft. Please consider updating your software and then follow the configuration instructions for Outlook 2010 instead of the information outlined on this page.

To add your Mail Profile for Microsoft Exchange in Outlook 2003:

  1. Exit out of Outlook.
  2. Within Windows, go to Control Panel > Mail > Add.
  3. Name your profile (e.g. BU Exchange) and click OK.
  4. Select add a new email account and click Next.
  5. Select Microsoft Exchange Server and click Next.
  6. Your server name should be xmail.bu.edu.
  7. You can leave the Cached Mode checked.
  8. Enter your BU login name and click Check Name. If prompted, provide your BU login name with the Kerberos password. (In some cases, you might need to login with your domain in the format ADlogin or AD2login as applicable, with the corresponding password.)
  9. Then click Next and Finish
  10. Click OK to close the Mail Control Panel.
  11. Launch Outlook.
  12. If prompted again, provide your BU login name and Kerberos password. (In some cases, you might need to login with your domain in the format ADlogin or AD2login as applicable, with the corresponding password.)
  13. You should now be all set to begin using Outlook.
