Configuring PPP (a modem connection) for Mac OS 8 and 9
1. To manually
configure PPP for the Macintosh, you must change the settings
in several Control Panels. The first one to configure is the TCP/IP
Control Panel. To open the TCP/IP Control Panel, go to the Apple
Menu in the upper left corner of your screen, choose Control
Panels, and choose TCP/IP.
2. Make your TCP/IP Control Panel match
the picture above, then close the window. When prompted to save
changes, choose Yes.
3. Next, go back to the Apple
Menu, choose Control Panels again, and select Modem.
5. Once you have configured the control
panel, close the window. When prompted to save changes, choose
Yes.
6. The last control panel to configure
is Remote Access. Once again, go to the Apple Menu,
choose Control Panels again, and this time select Remote
Access.
7. Next, determine the appropriate
telephone number to dial. The following table lists the most common
configurations.

Note
that dialing the number in the eleven-digit format will not accrue
long distance charges as long as you can normally place calls
to metropolitan Boston with no additional fees. If you are unsure,
please contact your telephone company first to avoid receiving

Control Panel.

Yes.
A PPP connection will be initiated automatically
when you launch any of your Internet applications (such as a Web
browser or e-mail program). Alternatively, you may manually open
a PPP connection by going to the Apple Menu, choosing Control
Panels, and selecting Remote Access. In the Remote
Access Control Panel, you should then click the Connect
button.
To close a PPP connection, go to the Apple Menu, choose Control Panels again, and select Remote Access. In the Remote Access Control Panel, you should then click the Disconnect button.
