INFORMATION FOR HANDHELD DEVICE USERS
Students and staff in the IT Help Center use a variety of handheld devices and will try to help with any issues you encounter on the BU network. However, we cannot guarantee support for any specific device. The information below is provided for your convenience, and we hope it will be helpful.
Wireless access
Many handheld devices come bundled with an Internet service or "data plan," making use of BU's wireless network unnecessary. Because many residences do not offer full wireless coverage, handheld users might need to use their bundled service quite often while on campus, and those who cannot use 802.1x technology, or the VPN, will have to at all times. However, for those who do hope to use the BU wireless network whenever possible, information is outlined below:
Using e-mail
Regardless of your method of Internet access, you should be able to access your BU e-mail using one of the following methods:
- Configure your device to read ACS mail using our instructions for iPhone/iPod Touch or the Blackberry. If you are using a different handheld device, you should be able to configure your device using the general settings described at www.bu.edu/pcsc/email/configure/.
- Use the handheld's Web browser to access BU e-mail at www.bu.edu/webmail.
- Forward BU e-mail to an account that already works on your handheld. You can set up forwarding as described at www.bu.edu/pcsc/email/configure/forwarding/.
