Getting started with E-mail at Boston University
The steps below will quickly get you started reading your BU e-mail.
- If you haven't already, apply for an ACS account. Your account should be available within 12 hours after you complete the application process.
- Use Horde - BU's Web-based mail system to read your mail on ACS. Using Horde requires no configuration, so you can get started easily and use it anywhere.
Alternatively, or in addition, to use of Horde you can:
- configure a desktop mail program
- configure a handheld device (such as the iPhone or Blackberry) or
- forward your BU mail to another account you already use.

Do you use another mail system at BU?
Some BU departments and academic programs do not use ACS as their primary mail system, but instead host mail on other mail servers, including Exchange servers. More information about other mail servers at BU.
