doing browser troubleshooting? or can't open an attachment in horde?

Windows security settings can cause problems, like the example of not being able to download attachments from Horde. The instructions provided below should be helpful in resolving this specific issue, and others like it.

Windows

1. Launch Internet Explorer 7 and go to the Tools menu (OR choose Start-Settings-Control Panel-Security) and open Internet Options. Then click the Security tab.

2. With the Internet zone icon highlighted, click the Custom level... button.

3. A list of security settings will appear. Find the Launching applications and unsafe files setting (under Miscellaneous) and select Prompt (recommended). **

4. Then click OK until you are out of the settings area.

5. Return to www.bu.edu/webmail to see if the problem has been resolved. If the problem has not been resolved, the best course of action is to reset all settings to default by going back to Internet Options then choose the Security tab and Reset all zones to default level.

** NOTE: If that setting was already set, then it is likely another Security Setting that is causing the problem. The best course of action then, is to go to the bottom of that same window and choose Reset to Medium-high (default) and click on Reset (or follow the comparable steps outlined in blue in step 5).

Mozilla Firefox for Windows

As described by Mozilla, starting with version 3, "Firefox now honors your Windows security settings for downloading applications and other potentially unsafe files from the Internet." For that reason, even Firefox users should follow the steps outlined above to resolve the problem.
