Moving Stored Messages
There is no interface that allows you, or IS&T, to move your existing e-mail messages between ACS and BU Google Apps (or commercial Gmail) in an automated way. Also, because POP is not available for use on ACS, you cannot “POP” your existing Inbox messages from ACS into BU Google Mail.
However, ACS, BU Google Mail (and commercial Gmail) are all IMAP-compliant, which means you can set them up as separate accounts in a desktop mail client and then drag and drop any message(s) that you wish to migrate from one account to the other. You will have access to mail stored on ACS until September, 2012 and can follow the steps outlined below to move any messages that you wish to keep.
1) Configure a single desktop client to access the accounts that you wish to move mail between:
Configure a desktop client to access ACS (Many people will have already done this for use of ACS.)
Note: This method would also be applicable to accounts on other IMAP servers, replacing acs-imap.bu.edu with whatever are the incoming mail settings for that server.
Configure a desktop client to access BU Google Mail
Note: This method would also be applicable to accounts on commercial Gmail, using imap.gmail.com over SSL (port 993) as the incoming mail server setting.
If you experience any problems setting up the second account, it could be because you cannot have two login@bu.edu e-mail addresses in the mail client you are using. To work around that, you can rename the e-mail address in your ACS account settings to login@acs.bu.edu.
2) Move, by dragging, any message(s) that you wish to move from one account to the other.
Once both accounts are configured in the same mail client, you can move messages between them using drag and drop (some mail clients will also provide an upload interface). Although mail clients can vary somewhat on how they handle this process, most will allow you to select more than one message (or folder) at a time by holding down the shift key.
