You can move your Address/Contacts list to use it with Exchange from a variety of alternate email programs. Your Contacts list will be stored centrally, making it available to you via Outlook, Outlook Web Access (OWA), and your Exchange-compliant devices such as the iPhone, Blackberry or Android. Follow the instructions on this page for assistance.

Import from:

Eudora or Outlook Express (Windows)

Outlook can import Contacts from Eudora or Outlook Express using a built-in process. Go to File->Open->Import, select the option to Import Internet Mail and Addresses, and then the import wizard will guide you through the required steps.

Eudora, Entourage, Mail, .csv, .olm, .pst (Mac)

Microsoft provides detailed instructions on importing to Outlook 2011 from each of these clients or data formats. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2413370 (or the .csv import steps outlined below on this page) for more information.

Thunderbird (Windows or Mac)

Launch Thunderbird, open the Address Book, and select the list you want to export. (If you have more than one list, you will need to repeat these steps for each). Choose Tools->Export. Give the file a name and indicate that you want to Save as type: Comma Separated. Click on Desktop (to save it to the Desktop location) and then Save.

The .csv file that you have just created can now be imported into Outlook using the instructions provided below.

Outlook (e.g. from an IMAP account on another computer)

You can export your local Contacts from Outlook 2010 and from Outlook 2011 (steps 1-3) for import into Outlook for Exchange.

Horde

After you have transitioned to Exchange, no new mail will be going in to your Horde/ACS account. However, you will still have access Horde (until September 2013) in order to retrieve things like address information or the parameters for your filters/rules.

  1. Log in to Horde at www.bu.edu/webmail.
  2. Go to your Contacts list and choose Select All by clicking in the top box to the left. (You can also make individual selections if you don’t want to export every address.)
  3. Click Export and choose Comma Separated Values. Then click on the Export button.
  4. Look for the resulting file, which will be called contacts.csv. If it’s not on your Desktop, check your Browser’s Downloads folder.
  5. Once you have located contacts.csv, launch Outlook and follow the steps outlined below.

Import (.csv) to:

Outlook 2011
