Improvements to the BUworks BW reporting environment

The BUworks Business Warehouse (BW) team is working to make reporting better. Based on feedback from various stakeholders, we are making a series of changes to the BUworks BW reporting environment on Monday, April 7. These changes will make it easier to find reports and the data needed. We will do this in several ways: by removing obsolete reports, by reducing the number of reporting folders, and by making the most frequently used reports even better with requested variables and data.

For a list of project participants, a detailed list of enhancements, and a list of reports to be deleted, please see the Usability Project Details page. Here is a summary of the changes:

1. Make it easier to find the reports you want to use

  • Reorganize and streamline menus to reduce number of folders
  • Remove obsolete reports
  • Provide direct access to reports previously available only by drill down

2. Improve the most-used reports

  • Add requested fields to variable screens
  • Reconfigure default layouts to make them more useful
  • Add free characteristics to enable additional detail
  • Standardize variable screens, key figures, and characteristic names
  • Add hours worked to Labor Distribution Reports
  • Expand data on GM report to include P-Card data, administrator names, and other data

Please note, report use is something we have been tracking. If you have used one of the reports to be deleted in the past two months, you will receive an email message with suggestions of better reporting solutions to use instead.

Direct Deposit Reactivated on ESS

Boston University is committed to securing the personal information of our faculty and staff. In light of the recent Phishing events the Direct Deposit banking information on Employee Self Service (ESS) was disabled as a security precaution. A working group was formed and has been working diligently to develop more robust security measures to safeguard our employee’s personal banking information.

We are pleased to announce starting February 19, 2014 the Direct Deposit Link on ESS is once again available for use. Enhancements have been made to the Direct Deposit application by adding Banking validation checks. You will now be asked for your Current MAIN Bank account information when making banking changes to your existing account. Newly hired employees may skip this field.

The working group is also looking at developing more advanced and long term security solutions for the SAP Employee Self Service portal. We will have more information to share with soon on these future improvements.

BUworks will be unavailable November 27 at 7 PM through December 1

Thursday, November 21st, 2013

The BUworks (SAP) system will not be available starting at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 27, through 6:00 pm on Sunday, December 1.  During this time, we will be bringing our implementation of SAP up to the current support level, as well as providing the necessary payroll and accounts payable tax software updates for producing W-2′s and 1099′s in January.

Installation of these updates into the SAP Production system will take about two days, with an additional two days to check out the system and ensure that everything is working as expected.  These four days will align with the Thanksgiving break, and we expect the system to be available again after 6:00 pm on Sunday, December 1.
