The implementation of the EZproxy service may affect information provided on personal websites or Blackboard/WebCT sites, particularly by faculty who provide those resources for students. If web pages or other documents have links to online journal articles or other resources licensed by the libraries, those links will probably need to be modified in order to work with the new EZproxy service. Below are several methods to help faculty, or others, in modifying the links in documents and websites.

Method 1:

Simply paste the URL here and you’ll see a new EZproxy URL shown below it automatically.

Method 2:

Manually edit the URL to append https://ezproxy.bu.edu/login?url= to the beginning of the full URL. If you manually edit, it is very important to test the link to ensure it works as you intend.

The required characters, shown below in bold, must be inserted before the full URL. For example:

https://www.bu.edu/

becomes

https://ezproxy.bu.edu/login?url=https://www.bu.edu/

Method 3:

Lastly, you can modify the URLs on your web pages by re-executing the search beginning at the library web pages.  You would then cut and paste the modified URL into your document.  A list of library search pages appears below that you can use to begin your search, and a brief webcast tutorial demonstrates this process.

Note: Many vendors provide a durable (stable or permanent) URL that is the preferred URL to use as a link in your documents. While the “.ezproxy.bu.edu” information is automatically embedded in the address box at the top of the browser window, it is not always present in the durable URL provided by the vendor. If it is not present, you should add it manually.
