WordPress Infrastructure Improvements

On Sunday, June 16, IS&T will complete transition of the BU WordPress Content Management System (CMS) to a new technical infrastructure. More than a year of work and preparation has gone into this project, and BU web publishers will benefit from improved reliability, stability, and scalability of BU WordPress once this rollover is complete.

This transition involves a series of production changes between 6/2/2013 and 6/16/2013.  These changes are not expected to disrupt front-end web services — sites should remain fully browsable throughout. However, content edits, form submissions, and comments will be impacted during the following times while BU WordPress is in maintenance mode:

  1. Sunday, June 2, 2013 – 12am to 6am: Content edits, comments, and most form submissions will be temporarily disabled for the duration of this work on all BU WordPress-based websites.
UPDATE 6/2/13: This stage of the work was completed at 3:40am. WordPress service was returned to normal operations at that time.
  2. Sunday, June 16, 2013 – 12am to 6am: Content edits, comments, and most form submissions will be temporarily disabled for the duration of this work on all BU WordPress-based websites.
  3. June 2, 2013 through June 16, 2013: Web team developers and designers will observe a code freeze  — new website requests and site launch requests will require additional review, and may be deferred until after 06/17.

If you have any comments, questions, or concerns about this planned maintenance or WordPress in general, please contact the IT Help Center online, via email to ithelp@bu.edu, or by phone at 617-353-HELP (4357).
