Michael Caramanis holds a BS (1971) in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University and an MS (1972) and PhD (1976) in Engineering from Harvard University. Prior to joining Boston University in 1983, he served as a consultant to the World Bank (1976 1977) and directed the Scientific Secretariat of the Greek National Energy Council (1977 1979). From 1979 till 1983 he was associated with MIT's Energy Laboratory where he was deputy director of the Utility Systems program. He has served as editor of IIE Transactions on Design and Manufacturing, is a member of the same journal's editorial board, and has participated in national and international scientific conference planning committees.
