UserAdm Command Overview
new
The program used to gather account information from
the user and create an account request. Depending on
your local configuration, it may also cause the user
account to be automatically created on the system.
approve
After an account request has been logged, the system
administrator uses the approve command to create
an account.
pre-approve
is used to create database entries for users
who are not registered students, faculty, or staff at
Boston University. If a user has been pre-approved,
his/her account will automatically be created when he/she
runs new. Special privileges are required to run pre-approve.
validate
is used to check all users in /etc/passwd against information
in the global UID server. It checks for "dead" accounts
and verifies that your passwd file is GUID compliant.
deliver
is used to send a copy of the /etc/passwd file to the
global UID server. deliver is normally run
nightly out of cron.
adduser
creates a user account on the local system. adduser
is a perl script that can be modified to suit the needs
of your local installation.
batch-new
is a migration tool for departments that are not global
UID compliant. It allocates global UIDs to users who
do not have them and creates template passwd file entries.
chownall
is a migration tool for departments that are not global
UID compliant. After a passwd file has been converted
to global UID compliance, chownall can be used to change
the UIDs on files throughout a system.
Files

Controls the operation of the new program.
user_info
The user_info file contains information about
account requests entered through new. The information
in this file is used by the approve program.
