About

The Office of Information Technology helps install and configure UNIX / Linux systems running Fedora Core Linux, Solaris, and IRIX. We have customized these operating systems to give you access to:

  • campus-wide mail and directory services
  • e-mail virus protection
  • network -licensed programs, such as Matlab, Mathematica, Splus, etc.
  • popular programs, compiled and/or installed by OIT admins
  • tools that fix security problems automically (or semi-automatically)

Network installations are easily downloaded. Install BU Linux (based on fully patched Fedora Core 4), Solaris 9 and 10, and IRIX 6.5.27 quickly, knowing that the operating system is configured to be more secure than what would be installed as out-of-the-box software. BU Linux and Solaris offer ways to stay up-to-date, with a minimum of oversight. IRIX updates are available to those who purchase SGI software service.

You'll have access to software OIT admins maintain, which will greatly lighten your work load. Hundreds of programs are available, none of which you are required to purchase or keep up-to-date. Matlab, Splus, Mathematica, Maple, Tex, plus much more is available.

As a member of the BU community, contact us and we'll help you get started on your installation.
