Synesthesia at the Vision and Cognition Lab

The Synesthesia Project is part of Boston University's Vision and Cognition Laboratory under the direction of Alice Cronin-Golomb. Located in Boston's Kenmore Square, the Lab houses research on a variety of visuospatial and cognitive phenomena.

Currently, the Synesthesia Project is looking for both color-graphemic synesthetes and non-synesthetes to participate in a our experiments aimed at understanding synesthetic memory and visual perception.

Potential Participants

If you would like to participate in our ongoing studies, you must meet the following qualifications:
  1. You must have English as your primary language. If bilingual, you should have started speaking English at no more than ten years of ago.

  2. You must not have a history of drug abuse, including alcohol and marijuana.

  3. You must not have a history of serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

  4. You must not have a history of neurological illness, including but not limited to a stroke, epilepsy, or a head injury that left you unconscious for more than 5 minutes.

  5. You must be able to travel to our office in Kenmore Square or, in special instances, to New York City.

  6. If synesthetic, you must have color-graphemic synesthesia that involves both letters and numbers.
