Non-Graphemic Shapes and Color-Graphemic Synesthesia

This is a test of visual perception designed to investigate the coloring of non-graphemic shapes, or shapes that are not used as part of a language, in color-graphemic synesthetes. The Synesthesia Project has found that many synesthetes do report having colored basic shapes, including triangles and squares, in addition to their colored letters and/or numbers. We are investigating whether this is a widespread phenomenon and have designed this application to explore this further.

On each page, you will see a shape or set of shapes. Using the color picker located below the shape, please select the color that best matches that shape's photism. Also, indicate using the drop down menu where the colors are displayed. If you have no color for the selected image, click "No Color/Skip" to move on to the next shape.

The test is approximately twenty minutes long. You may stop and return at any time as long as you use the same email address on Shape Battery start page.
