Day Trips Outside of Sydney

Hunter Valley

Hunter Valley

Settled in the early nineteenth century with convict labor, Hunter Valley was originally known for its mining industry and agricultural products. The region has grown to become a producer of award-winning wines that rival those of Europe and California. In addition to wine-tastings at the local wineries, the region features art galleries, antique shops, cafés, boutique shopping, and beautiful countryside. There are many tours available including coach tours, bike tours and 8 passenger vans.

The Blue Mountains

Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountains, a two-hour train ride from Sydney, takes its name from the ever-present blue haze caused by light striking droplets of evaporating moisture and oil from Eucalypt and Gum trees. The Blue Mountains are famous for the Three Sisters, a spectacular rock formation on the edge of the cliff overlooking Jamison Valley. The Katoomba Scenic Skyway and Scenic Railway, the world’s steepest incline railway, are located on the site of a abandoned coal mine, a short walk from the Echo Point lookout site.  From the base of the scenic railway, you can enjoy a bush walk through a temperate rainforest. The Blue Mountains offer breathtaking scenery and bush walks for the novice and expert alike. The Blue Mountains has heaps of discount accommodation, especially in Katoomba, but is also an easy day trip.

Featherdale Wildlife Park

Featherdale

Featherdale is one of Australia’s largest private nature reserves and offers visitors the unique opportunity to pet and feed the animals and have their photo taken with a koala. Featherdale is 45 minutes from the city and accessible by public transport. Many organized tours to the Blue Mountains and Hunter Valley stop at Featherdale.
