Strategic Plan
The purpose of the strategic planning process is to develop a plan that can be integrated into the University’s comprehensive strategic plan, which promotes leadership in education, research, and operations. This effort will provide the vision to lead the University and campus activities in a more sustainable direction and reduce our use of natural resources and operating costs, improve environmental and social impacts, and make sustainability integral to the fabric of Boston University.
At the direction of the Sustainability Steering Committee we are developing the University’s Sustainability Strategic Plan, employing the STARS framework. The planning process began in December 2010 with completion anticipated at the end of the spring 2012 semester.
The strategic planning effort is being lead by the sustainability director with each interest area authored by University experts, teams, task forces, and working groups. These authors represent key stakeholders from the faculty, staff, student, and the administration. The Sustainability Steering Committee will provide review and direction on a quarterly basis.
Benchmarking
For the purpose of consistency within this strategic plan the base year by which the University will measure progress will be calendar year 2005, an emerging standard for sustainability reporting.
