The Susilo Institute for Ethics in the Global Economy at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business will be hosting its second annual Global Ethics Symposium in Boston, MA from June 15-17, 2017. The symposium promises an audience of both academics and practitioners from throughout the United States and the world who seek to explore and exchange ideas surrounding the role of ethics in the global economy in a unique and interactive forum. It will continue the tradition begun at the inaugural symposium in May 2016 in Surabaya, Indonesia, which featured foremost business, academic, and political leaders reflecting on “Global Business Ethics – East Meets West.”

This second, Boston-based symposium “Defining Global ethics for the 21st Century Economy” is directed specifically toward both academics and practitioners. We ask all attendees to contemplate the following question before they arrive in Boston for the Symposium: based on your work and experiences, whether you are a practitioner or faculty, what is the role of ethics in the global economy? What issues or obstacles have you faced; what limitations or regulations in your industry may inform your answer to this question?

All attendees will have numerous opportunities to exchange useful, practical, and applicable ideas and practices they may implement in their business, classroom, or department. The symposium will feature onsite visits to global corporations and the latest tech start-ups, from which you will learn about today’s cutting-edge responses to challenging dilemmas. Symposium sessions will range from traditional academic paper presentations on the most recent research on global ethics, to interactive panels of faculty and practitioners discussing their shared perspectives, to active problem solving and learning, to programs showcasing effective practices by leading corporate decision-makers. Our hope is that attendees will learn from each other and take away ideas and practices that they can implement immediately. Academics may discover new research ideas or opportunity for studies based on actual obstacles or practices encountered by businesses, and share ideas with other researchers. Practitioners will have a chance to learn from others in their field and from different industries, while at the same time learning from and sharing ideas with researchers.

Presentations

We enthusiastically invite you to submit a proposal to present at the symposium. Your presentation should share the application of knowledge through implementation, including business activity or public policy developments on the subject of ethics in the global economy, as experienced and/or defined by your business or organization. Sharing real-world issues and/or practices is vital to the learning environment of the symposium. Because of the diverse nature of the audience, presentations will also provide opportunities for problem solving, inspired research, potential curriculum development, and experiential learning.

Multi-media equipment will be available for presentations. Whether a presenter would like to use multi-media can be determined at a date closer to the Symposium. To submit your presentation proposal, please see the timeline and submission instructions below.
