CAS RN 100 Religion and Culture
This summer course provides an introduction to the study of the intersection between religion and culture. Particular emphasis is given to the critical examination of religion in contemporary American mass culture (politics, the arts, mass media, etc.). 4 cr.

CAS RN 106 Death and Immortality
Examines death as religious traditions have attempted to accept, defeat, deny, or transcend it. Special attention is paid to death and the afterlife in American culture. Some topics include ancestor veneration, cosmologies, burial and cremation rites, and near-death experiences. 4 cr.

CAS RN 220 The Holy City: Jerusalem in Time, Space, and Imagination
Historical development of Jerusalem and its symbolic meanings in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions, from the Bronze Age to the 21st century. 4 cr.

CAS RN 362 Chinese Medicine
A wide range of traditional Chinese health and religious practices, interpreted in light of ancient concepts of body and mind, illness and health, and the like. Techniques are discussed, as well as magical, ritual, and popular healing. 4 cr.
