Financial AidFinancial aid for summer enrollment available to eligible Boston University students is limited to certain federal student loans, certain federal and private credit-based loans, and Federal Work Study. Visiting Students should generally apply for their loans through their home institution. To apply, the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be filed. A subsidized loan will be offered to the extent the student demonstrates financial need; an unsubsidized loan will be offered for any amount the student does not demonstrate financial need for, within established annual and aggregate loan limits. Eligible undergraduate students may borrow through the Federal Direct Stafford student loan for summer enrollments if they will graduate at the end of that summer term, or if his/her annual loan limit was not borrowed during the prior academic year, or will not be borrowed during the coming academic year due to attendance for only one semester. In addition, parents of dependent undergraduate students can borrow through the Federal Direct PLUS program, provided they pass the PLUS loan credit check review, are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and the student for whom they are borrowing meets citizenship, enrollment, and other requirements. Eligible graduate students may borrow for summer enrollment through the Federal Direct Stafford student loan program; however the amount they borrow for the summer will affect the amount they are allowed to borrow during the coming academic year. They must meet citizenship, enrollment, and other requirements. In addition, through the Graduate Federal PLUS Loan program, they may borrow an amount up to the difference between the cost of education for the academic year and the total financial aid received from all sources. Summer Federal Work Study is also available to eligible undergraduate and graduate students who meet citizenship, enrollment, and other requirements.
