Study and Travel—Summer 2008
Politics and Democracy in Spain
July 2-14, 2008
This summer, spend twelve days in Madrid, Spain, and develop an in-depth understanding of the workings of democracy in one of the European Union's member states.
With its turbulent history of civil war in the 1930s, successful democratic transition in the 1970s, regional separatism, and ongoing debates about the meanings of history and the territorial nature of the State, Spain's experience in the last decade and a half makes for a fascinating case-study in the nature of democracy.
Classes and intensive readings will be combined with visits to major cultural sites in Madrid, the Spanish parliament, and the regional government of Andalucía in Seville.
Join us for this unique, intense experience, and gain first-hand knowledge of Spanish politics and democracy along with valuable exposure to its participants and place.
