An introduction to the study of the intersection between religion and culture with attention to the critical examination of religion in contemporary American culture (politics, psychology, fundamentalism, spirituality, pluralism, and violence). 4 cr.
Religions of the World: Eastern
CAS RN 103
Study of Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, and Shinto. Focus on the world view of each tradition and the historical development of that world view. 4 cr.
Religions of the World: Western
CAS RN 104
Survey of the worldviews, religious beliefs, and spiritual practices of the major world religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Introduction to the development, thought, practices, and influence of these religions. 4 cr.
Buddhism
CAS RN 210
An introduction to the major themes and traditions of Buddhist thought and practice with special attention to the development of Buddhism in India, Southeast Asia, East Asia, and the West. 4 cr.
