Introduction to China (CAS LC 115)

Practice your beginning Chinese—in China!
This summer, embark on an unforgettable, fourteen-day journey to China. From Beijing to Shanghai, you’ll find yourself immersed in the day-to-day culture of the country. Throughout the program, you’ll interact with citizens and improve your Chinese language skills through daily instruction and practice—all while exploring many of China’s ancient wonders and beautiful historic sites, experiencing traditional customs, and enjoying a variety of cultural activities.

If you’ve completed at least one semester of beginning Chinese, then pack your bags—you won’t want to miss out on this language adventure.

Students who enroll in this beginning course will:

  • Practice spoken Chinese on a daily basis
  • Keep a daily travel journal

  • Attendance of Chinese cultural events, including the Chinese Kung Fu, and a Peking duck dinner
  • Explorations of everyday life at locations such as a high school and university, a village, local restaurants, gardens, temples, a silk factory, and markets

Prerequisites: One semester of beginning Chinese.
